The guys at Outside Interactive are sponsoring treadmill marathon world record attempts for men and women at this year’s Boston Marathon expo. Mike Wardian and Kim Duclos will be running at noon on Saturday and Sunday. If all goes well, they’ll be running for less than three hours each.
That leaves lots of time to fill, so Outside Interactive turned to me to help out. I meet the stringent qualifications to fill the position of male model/treadmill runner. First, I don’t mind looking like a sweaty gerbil in front of thousands of people. Second (and more importantly), I’m not running in the big event on Monday.
The funny thing is, this isn’t the first time that I’ve been part of an advertising campaign at the marathon expo. Back in 2005, when I was running Boston the week after I ran the Bull Run 50 miler, I was one of the “Saucony 26”. Among other things, Saucony had a 3-foot poster of me hanging in their booth at the expo. I still have that poster.
I’ll be running Saturday morning, starting around 10:30. Drop by booth #210 to say hi!
